2004
residents of Barton Hill, Bristol and members of the local
drug strategy (Community Action Against Alcohol and Drugs
, Safer Bristol, Police, Community at heart) placed the
responsibility of establishing a campaign group on the shoulders
of the local activist Garry Brandrick.
January 2005 Garry was
introduced to Nick Bentley , who had recently finished writing
his masters dissertation on the globalisation of the illegal
drugs trade. The combination of passion, street smarts,
and university education created IDEAL.
2005 we have been
building IDEAL into a community catalyst that will help
bring positive change to Barton Hill and other communities
seriously affected by drugs. Our experiences have led us
to the understanding that one area cannot work alone. The
supply and demand of illicit drugs acknowledges no boundaries.
So neither does IDEAL.
work centres around
research and development, raising awareness and building
effective community partnerships.
is our belief that residents,
community groups and statutory organisations have to work
together at the grassroots level in order to really begin
tackling the causes and effects of Bristol’s drug
problem. And it is our belief that what ever party is in
power, present and future Governments must all deliver real
and sustained investment directly into such communities they are found in.
hope you enjoy the site and if you happen to work
for a funding organisation or have a generous wallet, cheques
are payable to IDEAL,
all cards are accepted, and cash is a god send.
